ZCS must annually attest to the validity of, and submit, more than 100 reports to various agencies, but we are afforded just 1500 characters (not words) to introduce this aggregation of information and comparisons about our schools over which we have no influence in the resulting depictions. Substantial variety is present in a great many facets of any two school communities. This variability, when properly respected, amplifies actual understanding of the quality services provided by Indiana public schools like ours and others. Metrics alone ignore and often misrepresent the deep contexts of each of our communities and campuses. The only true accountability for local public schools is local accountability, but we respect and understand that our colleagues in state agencies have an important role to play in accountability’s wider view for which a robust, contextually accurate mousetrap has yet to be defined. We sense a moral obligation as a district that will compare reasonably well in every category to advise a caution of insufficiency to consumers about the information depicted herein.
